DELTON KELLOGG BOYS SECURE RUNNER-UP FINISH AT GOBLES INVITATIONAL GOBLES — Behind a series of powerhouse individual performances and a dominant showing in the field, the Delton Kellogg boys’ track and field team captured second place overall at the competitive Gobles Invitational on Friday. The Panthers finished with 58 points, trailing only team champion Saugatuck in a field of 17 schools. The Delton Kellogg girls’ squad also turned in a solid performance, placing ninth overall with 36 points and seeing several athletes reach new personal milestones. Madden, Muday Lead the Charge The highlight of the afternoon for the Panthers came from senior Landon Madden and pole vaulter Nick Muday, both of whom claimed gold in their respective events. Madden proved to be the fastest man in the 400-meter dash, sprinting to a first-place finish with a personal-best time of 51.39. He wasn't finished there, however, as he returned to the track to take third in the 200-meter dash, clocking another personal record (PR) of 23.54. In the field, Nick Muday continued his season of excellence by winning the pole vault. Muday cleared 13’ 0” to take the top spot on the podium. Muday also showed his range by contributing on the track, competing in both the 800 and 1600-meter races. Field Success and Relay Depth The Panther boys found significant points in the jumping pits. Senior Keegan Hill soared to a personal best in the high jump, clearing 5’ 11” to earn a fourth-place finish. On the relay circuit, the 4x200-meter team — comprised of Hill, Ryan Sinclair, Madden, and Logan Damron — battled to a fifth-place finish with a time of 1:36.49. The distance crew also held its own against a fast field. Malachi Allersma led the way in the 3200-meter run, grinding out a sixth-place finish with a personal-best time of 11:21.76. Allersma also cracked the top ten in the 1600-meter run (5:01.58). Girls’ Squad Shows Growth While the girls’ team finished in the middle of the pack, the meet was defined by individual progression. Riley Perley was a workhorse for the Panthers, securing 10th place in the 800-meter run with a personal-best 2:45.92 and adding a 15th-place finish in the 400-meter dash. In the 1600-meter run, Elli Timmerman crossed the line in 11th place with a time of 6:27.04. In the sprints, Brynlee Babbitt-Smith showed impressive speed in the 100-meter preliminaries, posting a career-best 14.44. The girls’ relay units also stayed competitive, with the 4x100-meter team of Alexandra Ryder, Peyton Danks, Lily DeVries, and Abby Nguyen taking ninth. Road to Regionals The runner-up trophy for the boys marks a significant mid-season milestone for the Delton Kellogg program, signaling that the Panthers will be a team to watch as the post-season begins. The Panthers will look to carry this momentum into the next round of competition as they head into the postseason. Delton Kellogg is scheduled to travel for the MHSAA Division 3 Regional at Bangor on Wednesday, with the meet set to begin at 3 p.m. With several athletes peaking at the right time and recording personal bests, the Panthers head into the regional round with significant momentum and eyes on a state finals berth.
